Ireland failing to combat human trafficking, report claims | Roscommon Herald


Katie MellettIreland is failing to meet the minimum standards to combat human trafficking, according to a new report from the US Department of State. The annual Trafficking in Persons Report, published on Thursday, ranks governments across the world on their perceived efforts to acknowledge and combat human trafficking. Ireland’s recent efforts to combat human trafficking includes increasing funding for victim care and awareness raising efforts. In 2022, Ireland identified 39 victims of trafficking, less than the 44 identified in 2021. Foreign trafficking victims identified in Ireland are from Africa, Asia, Eastern Europe, and South America.
